Furniture & Exhibits

Building life-size, human-centered furniture and exhibits presents many problems to solve, and I enjoy navigating this maze. Interactive art and design is a love of mine, as it has the ability to solve real-world problems in a spectacular way.

Furniture

Building custom furniture is a fun challenge to work through, and I've learned how to do just that. Learning joinery in school lead to building museum exhibits, working at a design-build architecture firm, building movie sets, and private commissions.

Museum Exhibits

Aftershock Rescue

This small exhibit, "Aftershock," taught children how connecting a grid with moving elements related to electrical output. Each cabinet controlled a part of a model city, allowing the user to experiment with each station.

Animationland

This large scale exhibit, "Animationland," walked children through the making of an animated clip. Covering everything from the history of animation to a working foley booth to a family-sized photo booth, and other tools used to create the child's own animation. After debuting the exhibit at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, it traveled the states for 3 years before returning for maintenance.

Set Building

"En el tiempo de las Mariposas," or "In the time of the Butterflies," is a Spanish language play for which I built the set at a small, local Spanish-speaking theatre and cultural center. I managed the scene shop and entire build of the set by myself with one volunteer.
