Problem Statement

Young adults often move frequently and live in compact spaces. Specifically focused on jewelry organization, how can easily transportable, organizational bedroom furniture help young adults create space in small rooms?
Research
Background Info
The biggest concerns with a large earring collection are organization, trouble when moving, losing earrings in the moving process, and storage.
The data
I asked Reddit and found the average woman owns between 20-50 pairs of earrings.
There is no consensus on how to store/organize earrings.
Most jewelry storage does not display collection.
User Interviews
I asked classmates to interact with my prototype
The feedback:
-Make smaller
-Work on earring display rod gliding actions, find a way to prevent tilting.
-Could be modular?
-Could this be scalable?
Ideation Sketches

Prototyping
Prototype 1
Initially, I wanted the earring frames to be attached to rods that slide from left to right. After some quick user testing with this prototype, it became clear that the sliding rod system needed revision.
Key Takeaways
-
Rods should rotate in place instead of slide
-
Users couldn’t envision scale, calling for more clarity in my next prototype.
-
Users didn’t understand what they were interacting with, suggesting a change in how form informs function

Prototype 2
My second prototype addressed size, aesthetics, and revised rod rotation.
Key Takeaways
-
Solidified size!
-
Aesthetics approved!
-
Rod rotation is far superior to gliding.
-
People could envision final design.
